So in November of 2007, Derek moved his family to
Benbrook, Texas. Armed with a pick up truck full of tools and a seamless gutter
fabrication machine in tow, Derek set out to establish his business in the
community. He ran advertisements in local newspapers and online communities such
as craigslist.org and uscities.net. Derek and the Benbrook Gutter Company were
even featured as the “Business in the Spotlight” for the April, 2008 edition of
the Benbrook/Western Hills News by Suburban Newspapers, Inc. As it turns out, it
seems that Derek’s best advertisement is actually the work it self. After the
initial promotion, much of the business today is generated through word of
mouth: a satisfied customer telling a friend or neighbor about their positive
experience with the company.
Derek was born in Long Beach, California and
raised in Phoenix, Arizona. After serving in the United States Marine
Corps, he moved to Seattle, Washington where he was offered a position
with a highly respected gutter company. It was there that he developed his
interest with rainwater drainage systems and gained hands on experience in
the field. Industrious Derek also worked at the Washington State
Reformatory as a Correctional Supervisor, responsible for supervising a
crew of 15 felons, all convicted of violent crimes, in a vocational
program. After several plus years in Seattle; a chance at career
advancement returned Derek to Phoenix where he joined the Arizona
Carpenter’s Union and became a Master Carpenter. While employed with a
Phoenix based construction company, he worked on projects at the Phoenix
Zoo and the Redrock Resort and Casino in Las Vegas. He also preformed
civil engineering for millwork at Google’s corporate office in Tempe,
Arizona and at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. The final position he
held with the company before moving to Benbrook, was that of Project
Manager were he was responsible for managing the cost, time, and scope of
numerous construction projects from the planning through the completion
stages.
Although
the company has grown a little since its original conception (it’s no longer
just Derek). It’s still the same family owned and oriented company it always has
been. The original objective that Derek envisioned remains the same, “To provide
high quality workmanship at a reasonable cost for all your home and/or business
rain gutter needs.”
From rain
gutter maintenance and cleaning, to the repair or removal of existing rain
gutters and down spouts, the installation of gutter leaf guard systems, and
finally the design, fabrication and installation of new rain drainage systems –
The Benbrook Gutter Company does it all.
